Here's What We're Working On
Data Literacy
Learning Goal: We will collect, analyze and make use of real life data to create graphs, get information and make informed decisions.
Success Criteria - what our students aim to achieve:
Success Criteria - what our students aim to achieve:
- I can read, interpret and make conclusions about primary and secondary data
- I can design a survey, collect and organize data, analyze graphs and patterns and communicate my findings
5 things that you can do at home to support learning about data literacy:
- Look at graphs in the media (newspapers, magazines, TV) and talk about what you are seeing - what is the graph showing? What are the variables? What are the main findings? What stands out to you? What type of graph is it?
- Get your child involved in tallying - taking inventory of similar objects around the house
- Encourage your child to create surveys and ask members of the family - what's your favourite......? They can then find create ways to display what they have found
- Look at charts and graphs together and discuss whether you think there might be a better way to show the data
- Go online together and learn more about data and graphing - here are some recommended sites: Math Games, IXL Math (free trial period) & teAchnology
